the best parenting hacks

So, I think we can all agree that parenting’s just kinda tough. Clothing, feeding, and caring for a tiny person (or two, or three, or more) is hard enough, but add in teaching her all the things she needs to know while navigating a landmine of legos and Barbie shoes and you now have a herculean task. Over my 15 years of parenting experience, I’ve discovered some products that are the ultimate parenting hacks: products that help get kids to bed, help keep them there longer, solve the constant “I need a cup” problem, convince them to eat dinner, make hand washing easier, and more. Seriously, one more hack to help older kids figure out how to stop losing their homework and we’re golden. If only I’d known about all of these with my first child!

teach kids to fold laundry with this simple hack!

I am a firm believer in teaching kids to do chores around the house, even when it’s easier to just do them yourself. However, there’s one chore I never have the little ones help with. (And no, it’s not loading the dishwasher – I’m not one of those people who won’t even let another adult touch their dishes for fear of messing with the system. If you’re one of those people, don’t worry, I still like you. I just think you’re a wee bit crazy. 😉 The chore I never delegate to the kids is folding laundry, because little ones just seem to lack the coordination necessary to fold clothes tidily, i.e. without so many extra wrinkles you’d be better off just stuffing them in a drawer.

DIY photo mounting for a cheap + easy gallery wall

Mount large prints on dollar store foam core board for an easy, inexpensive way to create a large gallery wall. Also, learn the best way to get them spaced perfectly when you hang them!

We moved into our new house last May and as of last week I still hadn’t hung one thing up on the walls! Our kitchen/dining/living area is all one big room, which makes it a nice open space, but it means the walls are great big. I worried that whatever I put up would either look ridiculously small in comparison to the wall size, or be ridiculously expensive to frame and hang. I finally came up with a collection of 14 prints that I love and deciding that printing them each at 16×20 would fill the wall nicely. But the costs of frames was going to be prohibitive, plus I really wasn’t looking forward to struggling with trying to get frames spaced nicely without putting a crazy amount of nail holes in my new wall. There had to be a better way!

how comparison steals our joy {and how to get it back}

It’s happened before, but this time it started with shoes. Cute shoes. Booties, or wedges, or whatever you want to call them. I found a great deal online and ordered a pair on a whim, making sure I could return them when they (inevitably) hurt my feet. But when they arrived I was surprised to find that not only did they fit, they were cute AND comfortable! I was a little unsure how the style looked on me – I’m not a long legged gal; in fact, the term most people might use to describe my legs starts with “thunder” and ends with “thighs” – and I wondered if this style might make my legs look bigger. But in a moment of empoweredness I decided I liked them anyway. In fact, I loved them. Yes. Good.

If you’re sad Downton is done, you’ll want to put these shows on your must-watch list.
